Broomfield Dog Walking Built Around Your Dog’s Fitness, Not Just Their Leash

Healthy Hounds Fitness Club offers structured fitness walks, adventure hikes, and canine massage for dogs in Broomfield, Colorado, with Fear Free certified Coaches who know the open-space trail systems, prairie dog colonies, and wind-exposed reservoir routes that define this city. Every session is one dog or one household, matched to your dog’s fitness level, behavioral needs, and the specific environment that serves them best that day.

From intentional movement sessions at Broomfield County Commons to quiet decompression walks at McKay Lake, every service is designed around your dog’s individual baseline. Broomfield is Colorado’s only consolidated city-county, and its open spaces give Coaches a range of terrain to draw from depending on the dog’s fitness level and what that session calls for.

Nicole Packin, founder of Healthy Hounds Fitness Club, holds a Master’s Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior from the University of Washington, is a Certified Fear Free Professional (CFFP), and is a two-time PSI Pet Sitter of the Year Top 5 Finalist (2024 and 2025). Every Coach on the team is a W-2 employee, Fear Free certified, and Pet CPR trained.

Hours are Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm. Call 303-956-5755 or book your free New Client Consultation to get started.

Services for Every Dog in Broomfield

Four services cover the full range of Broomfield dog needs. Every session is one dog or one household.

Starting at $40/session | ~30 minutes | Minimum 2x/week

The practical midday service for dogs whose owners commute along US-36. Consistent pacing, leash skill development, and routine structure for dogs that need reliable weekday movement without the intensity of a trail outing.

Starting at $55/session | ~45 minutes | Minimum 2x/week

Intentionally paced exercise designed to build cardiovascular conditioning and reinforce behavioral patterns. Varied terrain where the route supports the session goal. A step up in structure and duration from Everyday Walks.

From $125/session | ~120 minutes (90 minutes trail time) | Minimum 1x/week | Transport included

The flagship service. Dogs are assessed at intake for trail readiness before any Adventure Hike begins. Transport is included. Sessions run at Broomfield County Commons, the Big Dry Creek Trail corridor, or terrain matched to that dog’s current fitness level and the conditions that day. Adventure Hikes are built for conditioned dogs and are not every dog’s starting point.

From $95/session | 1x/month

Soft-tissue support after hikes, senior-dog maintenance, and stress reduction. Nicole Packin is a Certified Small Animal Massage Practitioner through NWSAM (Northwest School of Animal Massage) with Advanced Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, and Stress Point Therapy training. Nicole completes a veterinary coordination form before beginning any massage program.

What Broomfield Dogs
Actually Need from a Walking Service

Broomfield’s commuter households are on the US-36 corridor before 8am and back after 6pm. The dog is home alone for the stretch in between. That is not a criticism of anyone’s schedule; it is the rhythm of a dual-income professional household, and it is why consistent weekday movement matters as much as weekend outings. Dogs who get trail time on weekends but very little structure during the week are not building fitness. They are cycling between high arousal and no outlet, which is a pattern with real behavioral and physical costs.

A structured fitness walk is not a leash loop around the neighborhood. It is an intentionally paced session with a specific conditioning goal, calibrated to that dog’s breed, fitness level, and behavioral baseline. A decompression walk serves a different purpose: it gives a high-drive dog the space to sniff, self-regulate, and mentally settle in ways that pure mileage does not. Sniff-heavy enrichment outings are tiring in ways that distance alone cannot match.

Broomfield’s open spaces add a specific layer to every session. Active prairie dog colonies at Broomfield County Commons and wind-exposed reservoir corridors are significant distractions for many dogs, and unmanaged encounters can undo a solid session quickly. A Fear Free certified Coach reads a dog’s behavioral state in real time and adjusts trail selection, pace, and handling before a stress response builds. Every session is one dog or one household only.

A client from Broomfield: Loki is a 6-year-old bully mix whose family had already tried the things that should have worked: dog park visits, neighborhood walks, regular activity. He was not missing movement. He was missing structure. After outings, he still could not mentally settle. High-drive dogs that receive only unstructured exercise can end sessions more aroused than calm; mileage addresses the body but not the behavioral reset. Through regular structured walks with consistent pacing, intentional terrain choices, and environmental engagement, Loki became more focused, more balanced, and more fulfilled at home. Structure addressed what mileage alone had not.

I trust them completely with my boy Santana, he's small and full of opinions, and they totally get him. He absolutely loves his walks and weekly hikes. Knowing he's taken care of midday while I'm at work has been such a relief. So glad I found them.

Nicole helped me not only meet Vegas's fitness goals, but also helped her recover after long weekends of busy trialing. She helped keep Vegas out of the "weekend warrior" status, which meant safer runs and better recovery time! After working with Vegas, I introduced Nicole to my french bulldog Ozzy. Nicole knew exactly how to safely handle him and introduce herself slowly to build confidence and trust.

I don't know anyone more committed to safety and fitness in the canine world. She is determined to always do what is right for the dog. I would trust her 1000% with the care of my dogs every time.

She worked with my four dogs for about four years, three Bernedoodles and a Basset Hound, and honestly became a huge part of our lives. My dogs are at different stages in life, age, energy, just different needs, and she really understood that. Two of them needed to lose some weight, and over time I saw real progress.

Broomfield Trails, Parks, and Open Spaces Where We Walk

Broomfield’s open spaces are leash-only on all trail sections, with designated fenced off-leash areas at specific properties. Coaches select terrain based on each dog’s fitness level and behavioral baseline, not just proximity. Trail selection is part of the session plan.

Broomfield County Commons Open Space (13200 Sheridan Blvd) – Approximately 237 acres of leash-only open space. The Big Dry Creek Trail passes through the property, connecting Broomfield to Westminster. Tom Frost Reservoir’s soft-surface loop sits within County Commons, not as a separate location. A fenced off-leash dog park is available on-site, separate from the trail system. Active prairie dog colonies make County Commons the most distraction-heavy environment in Broomfield’s rotation, which also makes it the right location for structured fitness walks with dogs working on trail neutrality and focused movement.

Anthem Community Park (15663 Sheridan Pkwy) – Leash-only, 3.7-mile loop trail. Newer infrastructure and lower traffic than County Commons make Anthem well-suited to confidence-building sessions and trail neutrality development before a dog moves to higher-distraction routes.

McKay Lake Open Space (W 144th Ave at Tejon St) – Approximately 1.6-mile soft-surface loop. Leash-only. An eBird hotspot with seasonal waterfowl. McKay Lake delivers quieter terrain and lower visual distraction, making it a strong decompression walk and sniff-heavy enrichment route for dogs that benefit from mentally restorative outings rather than performance ones. Canine Massage pairs well with the lower-intensity conditioning days this location is designed for, addressing the soft-tissue accumulation that even regular gentle movement produces over time.

Broadlands neighborhood trails (distributed Broadlands neighborhood access) – Paved greenbelt paths connecting through the Broadlands neighborhood to the Big Dry Creek Trail. Walk-up accessible from client homes. Well-suited to leash-skill development in a predictable suburban environment.

Paul Derda Recreation Center area (13201 Lowell Blvd) – Trails accessed from the recreation center serve as a starting point for structured sessions in the northwest Broomfield corridor. The session starts at the trailhead, not in the building.

Josh’s Pond (Miramonte Ranch / Lac Amora area) – Approximately 3-acre pond with a soft-surface loop. Leash-only. Rarely crowded, residential feel, and walk-up accessible for clients in Lac Amora and Miramonte Ranch. Josh’s Pond is best suited for decompression outings and confidence-building sessions with dogs that do better on quieter terrain.

Coaches monitor conditions before every outing: morning versus afternoon timing in summer heat, afternoon storm windows, and wind exposure across open reservoir loops all factor into trail selection that day.

The Coaching Difference:
Credentials Behind Every Session

Nicole Packin holds a Master’s Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior from the University of Washington, a credential no other dog walking service in Broomfield holds. For research-oriented buyers in Anthem Highlands and the Interlocken corridor, that specificity matters: this is graduate-level education in how animals learn, respond to stress, and develop behavioral patterns, applied directly to how every Healthy Hounds Fitness Club session is structured.

Nicole is also a Certified Fear Free Professional (CFFP). Fear Free (fearfree.com) trains pet care professionals to recognize and reduce fear, anxiety, and stress during care interactions. In Broomfield’s open-space environment, where prairie dog colonies, reservoir waterfowl, and afternoon wind shifts can change a session’s dynamics quickly, a Fear Free certified Coach reads each dog’s behavioral state in real time and adjusts to set each dog’s session up for success. Nicole is also a Certified Small Animal Massage Practitioner through NWSAM, with Advanced Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, and Stress Point Therapy training. With 20+ years in pet care and two consecutive years as a PSI Pet Sitter of the Year Top 5 Finalist (2024 and 2025), Nicole’s background is specific and verifiable. Learn more about Nicole’s background on the About page.

Every Coach at Healthy Hounds Fitness Club is a W-2 employee, not a contractor. Every Coach holds Fear Free certification and Pet CPR and First Aid training and is trained on all services. Sessions are one dog or one household only. Healthy Hounds Fitness Club holds memberships in the Westminster Chamber of Commerce and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, and is fully insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas.

Broomfield’s Veterinary Community

When a dog is receiving care from a veterinary specialist, Healthy Hounds Fitness Club designs fitness-focused sessions to complement that care, adjusting movement intensity, terrain selection, and duration to support recovery-focused movement alongside the veterinary program. For dogs already in a Canine Massage program, the veterinary coordination form Nicole completes before beginning any massage keeps the care picture connected across providers.

Broomfield-area veterinary specialists we recommend clients be aware of include OrthoPets (1130 W 124th Ave, Westminster) and the Canine Rehabilitation and Conditioning Group (CRCG, 8855 W 116th Circle, Broomfield). CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Fort Collins serves as the regional anchor for specialty referrals. If your dog is already working with a veterinary specialist, let us know at intake so sessions can be designed to support your care team’s plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

All trail sections across Broomfield’s open spaces require a leash: Broomfield County Commons, McKay Lake Open Space, Anthem Community Park, Josh’s Pond, and the Broadlands neighborhood greenbelts are all leash-only on trail. Broomfield County Commons includes a designated fenced off-leash dog park within the property, separate from the trail system. Off-leash movement is not a default feature of Healthy Hounds Fitness Club outings. Whether a specific dog is a candidate for off-leash sessions is assessed case-by-case, based on that dog’s reliable recall, trail neutrality, and individual behavioral history. Broomfield has no breed-specific legislation, so bully breeds like Loki are welcome on any service without restriction at the city level.

An Adventure Hike is approximately 120 minutes total, with 90 minutes of active trail time, and includes transport to and from the trailhead. Sessions are designed for conditioned dogs that need endurance-building movement and mental engagement on natural terrain. Not every dog starts here. Intake assessment determines trail readiness, and Everyday Walks or Fitness Walks serve dogs that need structured midday movement without that level of intensity. Many Broomfield clients combine services across the week based on their dog’s schedule and conditioning needs.

Fear Free (fearfree.com) is a professional certification covering body language reading, stress recognition, and low-stress handling technique. A Fear Free certified Coach identifies early stress signals before they escalate, rather than responding after a stress reaction has already built. In Broomfield’s open-space environment, active prairie dog colonies at County Commons, seasonal waterfowl at McKay Lake, and afternoon wind across reservoir loops are all conditions that can shift a session’s difficulty quickly. The goal is a proactive adjustment that sets each dog’s session up for success, not a reactive correction once the stress response is running.

Yes. Structured, low-impact movement is one of Healthy Hounds Fitness Club’s primary service tracks. Sessions for senior dogs use shorter duration and lower-distraction routes such as Josh’s Pond, the Broadlands greenbelts, and McKay Lake, with intentionally paced exercise and close attention to recovery signals throughout. Canine massage is available as a complement for dogs managing soft-tissue tension or joint stiffness. Before any massage program begins, Nicole completes a veterinary coordination form so your dog’s care team is part of the picture from the first session.

Every Coach is a W-2 employee. Coaches are background-checked, Fear Free certified, Pet CPR and First Aid trained, and trained on all services. The employee model makes consistent training standards possible across every session type. Every Coach handles walks, hikes, and massage appointments, so your dog receives the same standard of care regardless of which Coach is on the session that day.

Most Arvada clients book Monday through Friday sessions while they are commuting to Denver or Boulder. Healthy Hounds Fitness Club is open Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm, which aligns with standard Denver metro commute departure times and early-rising RTD G Line riders. Sessions are scheduled in advance: Coaches manage routing and timing around weather conditions, summer heat windows when morning sessions are booked before trail surfaces heat up, and seasonal trail accessibility on Arvada’s foothill paths. The free intake consultation covers your scheduling preferences and establishes which service and timing best match your dog’s needs and your calendar.

The free New Client Consultation is where a Coach learns your dog’s fitness baseline, behavioral notes, trail readiness, and which service is the right starting point. No session is scheduled until the right match is clear.
